About Mrs. Rabago
Amy Rabago is the orchestra director at Veterans Memorial High School. She is a native of San Antonio, attended Texas State University – San Marcos to earn her Bachelors Degree in Music Education in 2005. Under the direction of Dr. Lynn Ledbetter, she went on to earn a Masters Degree in Violin Performance at Texas State in 2007. While at Texas State, Mrs. Rabago was involved in several musical ensembles including orchestra, chamber ensemble, salsa band and mariachi. Mrs. Rabago has been invited by Texas State University to give lectures on “Orchestra Education” and “Mariachi Education”. She has judged solo & ensemble contests, pre UIL concert & sight-reading and has served as clinician/conductor of the SAISD Honor Orchestra.
Mrs. Rabago has taught orchestra at Ross Middle School, Brazosport High School, Judson Middle School and Churchill HS. While at Judson MS, her varsity orchestra earned four straight sweepstakes honors in a row, all earning straight one's. 2016 proved to be a highly successful year as the Judson MS orchestra earned the "Overall Most Outstanding Orchestra" honors at the Director's Choice Music Festival.
In 2018, Veterans Memorial HS had a very successful year by having the most students in JISD make it into the Region 11 Orchestra, having the most students in JISD medal in UIL Solo and Ensemble and earned two Sweepstakes in their debut year attending UIL Concert and Sight-Reading. Her mariachi students earned the top two violin chairs in the 2018 Region Mariachi Contest and in 2019, the top three. The Veterans Memorial HS orchestra competed in the Director's Choice contest in Dallas and achieved Superior ratings and "Overall" contest winners.
Mrs. Rabago has earned the "Spirit of Judson" award and the "JISD Distinguished Educator" award. She was the 2017-2018 Region 11 Middle School Orchestra Chair and is a member of Sigma Alpha Iota Professional Music Fraternity, The National Scholars Honor Society, Pi Kappa Lambda Honor Society, Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) and Texas Orchestra Directors Association (TODA). She is a professional violinist/singer and active recording artist. During her free time, she enjoys playing volleyball and traveling with her husband Alfredo and son Isaiah. She is a big supporter of Autism Awareness.
